Know your limit
All manual handling requirements should be assessed to enable the necessary controls to be implemented. Mechanical handling equipment and aids should be provided and used wherever practicable in lieu of manual handling techniques when such equipment does not introduce greater hazards to operatives or others in the immediate vicinity.
Bagged products should normally be limited to < 25kg. Repetitively handled / laid products should normally be limited to < 20kg. Highway kerbs and slabs should be handled and laid mechanically e.g. by use of vacuum lifter.
