Starting out

Young People

A ‘Young Person’s Risk Assessment’ must be provided for all young people (usually under 18 years old) wishing to work on our sites, along with evidence of associated training / tool box talks etc.

Persons under the age of 16 are not permitted on-site. 16 and 17 year olds should not exceed 40 hours work per week.

Young people should be assigned to a “mentor” (responsibilities and duties should be assigned to the young person and the “mentor” respectively). (A “mentor” is a responsible person with sufficient knowledge, ability, training and experience in the relevant work and associated safe systems of work).

Each young person will be assigned to a ‘mentor’ – responsibilities and duties will be assigned to the young person and the ‘mentor’ respectively. A ‘mentor’ is a responsible person with sufficient knowledge, ability, training and experience in the relevant work and associated safe systems of work.

Note: Young people under the age of 18 are not permitted to operate mobile or mechanical vehicles.

Communicate any changes in duties or in the work place to the young person as well as risks and control measures. Use, maintenance and fit of PPE should be explained with demonstrations and questions asked to ensure comprehension
