McLaughlin & Harvey has banned the use of traditional A-frame and combination ladders from site. In the very rare instances that specific tasks / locations dictate the need for such equipment, the activity must be explicitly justified by risk assessment. Generic rick assessments will not suffice. Please refer to the current McLaughlin & Harvey 'Stepladders & Tower Scaffolds' policy.
The use of other steps such as podium steps and adjustable platform steps (with integral edge platform guardrails or handrails) is permitted but only if it can be demonstrated by risk assessment that other proprietary access working platforms cannot be used.
All ladders used on site will comply with BS 2037 as a minimum. Class EN131 (formerly ‘Class 2’) ladders may be used subject to risk assessment only. Class 3 domestic ladders and stepladders are not allowed on McLaughlin & Harvey sites and premises.
