Our Priority

We support our people and supply chain partners to live and work well encompassing both physical and mental wellbeing.

Many factors in the workplace influence the wellbeing of individuals, departments or the business as a whole. Understanding and addressing the factors which affect people’s wellbeing at work has a wide range of benefits, both for individuals and the business.

There are 8 key areas of wellbeing, and we aim to provide a positive and supportive approach in all areas.

Emotional Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing in the workplace is relevant to all. Addressing workplace wellbeing will help strengthen the positive, protective factors of employment, reduce risk factors for mental ill health and improve general health. It can also help promote the employment of people who have experienced mental health problems and support them once they are at work.

Mental ill health and stress are associated with many of the leading causes of disease and disability in our society. Promoting and protecting the mental wellbeing of the workforce is important for individuals’ physical health, social wellbeing and productivity.

 

Financial Wellbeing

The Money & Pension Service (MaPS) describes financial wellbeing as feeling secure and in control.   Being able to make the most of your money day to day, dealing with the unexpected and being on track for a healthy financial future. In short: financially resilient, confident and empowered.

However, we recognise that life events and circumstances can often have a dramatic impact on personal finances, and it is important to support individuals through difficult periods.  Anyone who requires additional support or information can contact some of the specialist services here.

Social Wellbeing

In the workplace, positive social wellbeing can usually be obtained from relationships with colleagues, from their sense of value and belonging & from business values.

It’s important to encourage a positive and inclusive environment where “We Collaborate” through great teamwork. Exceptional project delivery is only possible if we support each other.

 

Conducting employee surveys is a good way to engage with the workforce and gain valuable information to help retain and support staff.

Introducing a social committee can also help bring a team closer together and support each other.

Spiritual Wellbeing

Spiritual wellbeing is about a sense of connection to those things that give us meaning and purpose in life.

You could consider:

  • Raising awareness and recognising a broad selection of religious festivities across the calendar
  • Dedicate a space for spiritual and religious reflection and tranquillity
  • Yoga
  • Mediation

Yoga is good for you. According to the National Institutes of Health, scientific evidence shows that yoga supports stress management, mental health, mindfulness, healthy eating, weight loss and quality sleep. From a spiritual perspective, yoga enables us to practice acceptance, access inner peace, and tap into our inner guidance.

If yoga is not for you, why not consider meditation?  Meditation is one of the easiest practices to maintain because it requires little time.

“Some people think you have to sit and be quiet, but that’s not true,” Wester said. “You can walk and meditate, being mindful of how your feet feel on the ground or the details of your surroundings. Just the practice of slowing your body down can help slow your brain down.”

Physical wellbeing is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most out of our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress.

Environmental Wellbeing

The environment in which we work can affect the way we feel. Ensure that offices and site set ups are professional, clean, and comfortable and that everyone has sufficient space and equipment to carry out their role.

You should aim for:

  • Bright modern working spaces
  • Break out areas
  • Canteens and catering facilities, where appropriate
  • DSE assessments and adjustments, where required
