McLaughlin & Harvey’s Black Hat Academy is designed to train supervisors on the mandatory requirements for working on our projects.
We recognise that those who perform well in their site roles are often promoted quickly to supervisor or manager but may lack the training or experience required from a health and safety best-practice perspective.
We launched our Black Hat Academy to bridge that gap and ensure that everyone working with or for McLaughlin & Harvey has the same access to training.
Making sure that supervisors have clear ownership and responsibility for the individuals they put to work, with the overall goal of delivering our projects, safely, on time and to specification.
About the academy
The two-day training course, which covers health and safety, social value, quality and environmental modules, is free for our supply chain to undertake and is supported by our SHEQ team.
Over 700 delegates across the UK have completed the course.

Standards for our supply chain
All of our supply chain must demonstrate their health, safety, environmental and quality competencies through our pre-qualification process.
Only once the key competencies have been established, and our subcontractor commitment statement signed, will the subcontractor be deemed an approved supply chain member.
